Ellen Yack M.Ed., B.Sc.OT, OT Reg.(Ont.) is an occupational therapist who possesses a unique combination of expertise in the areas of clinical work, consultation, education and public speaking. Ellen has practiced as an occupational therapist since 1979 and has a Masters Degree in Education. She is internationally recognized for her expertise in sensory processing and autism spectrum disorders. Ellen's other areas of expertise include developmental coordination disorder, global developmental delay, attention deficit disorders and learning disabilities.
She is one of the co-authors of Building Bridges Through Sensory Integration: Occupational Therapy for Children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders which won a Teachers Choice Award for Best Special Education Classroom Resource. Ellen is also a contributor to the book Children, Youth and Adults with Asperger Syndrome.
In addition to client services provided at our clinic, Ellen has involvement at a variety of community agencies including:
- Consultation to the IBI and School Stream ABA Programs at Aisling Discoveries Child and Family Centre.
- Consultation to the Autism Support Team at the Toronto District Catholic School Board.
- Provision of staff training and workshops at the Geneva Centre for Autism. Ellen's workshops include the OT Certificate Course, Sensory and Behaviour Challenges, Surviving Mealtimes, Implementation of a Sensory Diet and Sensory Gifts and Challenges.
- Consultation to Alliance Services for Youth Inc. which supports children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorders.
- Consultation to the Redpath Centre which provides services to adolescents and adults with Asperger Syndrome and other behavioural and social challenges.
- Guest lectures at various university programs. Staff training to various school boards and other community agencies on the relationship between sensory processing and behaviour and sensory and motor challenges that impact daily living skills.
